The Durango driver crashed at the Stavelot corner at high speed on lap 10 of the race, forcing a second safety car period.
It is not thought he has aggravated the spinal injury he suffered in Turkey earlier this year, but Valsecchi did complain of a headache after his head-on impact with the tyre wall at the fourth-gear corner.
Durango team manager Luca Zerbini confirmed to autosport.com that the Italian will remain in hospital overnight.
